My little youngest child, Nash, recently turned four and thanks to the ‘party fairies’ over at Enjoy your Party I was able to throw a Modern Dino Birthday Party (with zero effort!)
Nash’s ‘Roar I’m 4!’ Dinosaur Birthday Party was all the way back in August and the fact that I am just now finding time to share it with you is a testament to just how busy my life is.
This crazy life of mine is exactly why I called in help this year for Nash’s birthday. Yes, it’s true, the ever-loving-party-planning-mama needed a helping hand hosting a party. Yep, I said it. And while I’m in a confessing mood I might as well let you know that other than his first birthday, this is the only party Nash has had.
We usually just pack up and do something fun as a family for the day or the weekend, but no actual 2nd or 3rd birthday parties for my third child. It’s true.
I do love everything about parties – the planning, shopping, decorating, cooking, and the entertaining. Over the years I’ve thrown a Boho Chic Camping Party and a Tumblr Inspired Pool Party for Chayce and a Karate Birthday Party for Fletcher. Plus there was a whole slew of fairy, octonaut, mickey mouse, dirt bike and spa inspired parties before those.
I guess that’s how it goes for the third child. The stereotypes are absolutely true. The third child gets no baby book, wears all hand-me-down-clothing and is not the guest of honor at any elaborate birthday parties. I mean he did have a Bubbles and Balloons 1st Birthday Party, but other than that nothing.
So of course for the third year in a row I wasn’t planning on throwing Nash a party when a week before the big day he started talking to me about his upcoming “dino birthday”. Cue the mom guilt. I was completely under the impression that he wouldn’t care here nor there about a party and then with only T-7 days it became apparent that I was wrong. So wrong.
So I called in the reinforcements and ordered the Dinosaur Birthday Party crate from Enjoy the Party. The owner, Jen, is amazing! She has such a great eye for everything from clothing and photography to home décor and event planning and she personally curates all of the party packages. They offer a wide range of packages and also take requests for any party your guest of honor can dream up!
The day after I contacted Enjoy the Party boxes full of everything I needed to throw a Modern Dino Birthday Party arrived at my door.
They think of everything! Seriously, there was even color coordinated chalk, candles and a lighter!
Tasteful and minimal, the party appealed to adults but also had super fun details for the kids. The bins were full of modern fun décor in shades of blue and green with pops of orange and lots of white to keep the whole look very clean.
My blue jeans and blue tie dye top look was completely unintentional, but I love that it matched the party décor. Btw – this top is so soft and flattering plus it doesn’t wrinkle! Perfect for keeping crazy busy moms like me from looking like a hot mess. My entire outfit is Shop Stevie and I can not recommend the label enough! Great customer service and high quality, fashionable but not over -the-top-trendy clothing at great prices. The package came with everything I needed to set up an ‘adopt a dinosaur’ station. The dinosaur eggs were so much fun to smash at the party but there were also hand lettered gift tags included so they could be used as party favors instead.
There was even GIANT dinosaur toys for decoration that the kids just loved! So much so that I had to hide them from Nash so that he wouldn’t think they were his. But if you happen to have a similar issue of you or your child falling in love with a certain piece, Enjoy the Party offers many of their party package items for sale.
Food and Drink
We had ‘swamp water’ with dino egg ice and a whole omnivore-themed snack spread. For the carnivores there was a diy taco bar with two fillings; pulled pork and shredded beef. DIY food stations are the best! I love that everyone can choose exactly what they want to eat and eat it whenever they want. Taco fillings were slow cooked ahead of time and reheated on the stovetop just before the party. For the herbivores there was a crudité platter with whipped feta herb dip served in the cutest Enjoy the Party dino serving dish. Also homemade kale chips and a fruit platter. The omnivores had a cheese plate piled high with cheese, spreads and cured meats.
It was such a nice change to be able to relax and enjoy the party rather than be exhausted from planning, shopping and putting together the entire thing. Being a parent is exhausting enough, I’m all for accepting help when I can.
Getting a helping hand with party planning is something that I would have never imagined doing, but it ended up being the best decision because Nash had an actual birthday party and I didn’t have to add anything to my already long to-do list.
In what ways do you adjust your norms and accept help with a task that you would typically do yourself? Does it help you? Does it give you more time to relax? Doe it save your sanity? Leave me a comment and let me know!
